Please ensure that your bags are put out at the right collection times for your location/road. There are metal signs/posters affixed to lampposts along main roads facing the properties that provide the timings for when bags can be left out for collection and when they will be collected. Veolia collects waste and recycling from the designated collection points or drop boxes within set timeframes twice a day, seven days a week. You can also find your daily put-out times here:

There are 26 sacks per roll.

You can collect 1 roll per visit, which should be enough to last you approximately 26 weeks, i.e. one bag per week for 6 months.
How frequently can I collect them?
Your supply should last for 26 weeks but please revisit your library to collect more whenever you are close to running out.
Is there a charge?
No the sacks are free of charge.
Why are Veolia not delivering them anymore?
The council has had to make significant savings. The council funds everything from adult social care to libraries and children’s services. It was felt that by handling waste sacks differently the council could make vital savings while still providing a robust waste service.
What if I can’t get to a library?
The libraries are designed to be as accessible as possible. If you are unable to visit or ask a family member or carer to visit on your behalf then in these exceptional circumstances we may be able to arrange a special delivery.
What if the library has run out of sacks?
The libraries will inform us when they need stock replenishing. As soon as we receive notification that a library requires more sacks we will deliver them as soon as possible.
Can I collect sacks for my neighbour?
Providing you have proof of their address as well then this will not be a problem.
I live in a kerbside/low-rise/front garden property that is on a sacks service as there is no safe space for a bin, can I visit my local library to collect sacks?
Unfortunately not. These are for residents in flats above shops only. Please contact the Veolia Contact Centre on 020 8885 7700 or [email protected] to request a free delivery of these sacks.
Can I have my order of sacks delivered to the shop downstairs?
No, the delivery of sacks to individual premises has now ceased. Please visit your local library.
I visited my library but my address was not on the list and they wouldn’t give me any sacks. What can be done about this?
We will check your property against our database and will add you to the list of flats above shops and update all the libraries with this information. As a gesture of goodwill we will arrange for a one-off delivery of 2 rolls of sacks to your property.
What can I put in my green recycling sacks?
Glass bottles and jars – not broken glass
All plastic bottles, plastic containers and clean food trays
Food tins, drink cans and aerosols
Food & drink cartons e.g. Tetra Paks
Clean paper and cardboard
Please wash containers before recycling them in your green sacks.
Please be advised that if you put any other items in your green recycling sacks this is known as contamination. Once it has been put into the collection vehicle it could mean that the whole load cannot be recycled and will have to be burnt. If you regularly contaminate your recycling you may be liable for enforcement action, which could include a financial penalty.
Can I recycle food waste?
We are currently trialling on-street food waste collections for flats above shops in 3 locations across the borough (1 in Tottenham, 1 in Wood Green and 1 in Muswell Hill). For most properties, however, it is not yet possible to recycle food waste so please place in the refuse/non-recyclable waste bags.
